THURSDAY, February 9 Sommelier Showdown 6:00pm-9:00pm $150 See top DC Sommeliers flex their knowledge at the Washington DC International Wine & Food Festival's inaugural Sommelier Showdown. Ramon Narvaez of Marcels, Brasserie Beck, Brabo and Mussel Bar will coordinate our experts as they engage in a friendly tête-à-tête and compete in a race of the taste, using deductive tasting to identify wines with hidden labels. Sommelier contestants: Theo Rutherford, The Coterie Eli Benchimol, Chef Geoff's Gustavo Iniesta, Taberna del Alabardero Guy Golan, J & G Steakhouse Brent Kroll, Adour To complement the wines presented, the Showdown will feature five of DCs most noted chefs who will be tasked with bringing food and wine together, including Chefs Todd Gray (Equinox), Xavier Deshayes (Ronald Reagan Building), and Jaime Montes de Oca (Zentan). Invitation only to select members of the hospitality and restaurant trade, a limited number of tickets will be released to the public at $150.
FRIDAY, February 10 Cupid's Not Stupid, Cocktails to Fall For Aria Pizzeria 7:00pm-10:00pm $55 A Valentine’s Day themed cocktail reception with top DC mixologists engaging in a friendly cocktail competition. Mixologists: Gina Chersevani Rachel Sergi, Jack Rose Dining Saloon Ben Wiley, America Eats Tavern Youssef, J & G Steakhouse Dennis Burns, Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center Book signing by Dan Searing whose new book The Punch Bowl: 75 Recipes Spaning Four Centuries of Wanton Revelry just came out. Admission includes sampling all five cocktails, wine, beer and light snacks. Join us on Friday, February 10th at 7pm at Aria Pizzeria & Bar in the Ronald Reagan Building & International Trade Center.
GRAND TASTING Wines of the world and the variety of fare that goes along with them is the theme of this premier festival in our Nation’s Capital. At the IWFF Grand Tasting on February 11th & 12th over 500 rare, unique and loved wines will be available for tasting from 100 wineries from around the world and foods from artisanal producers around the world and DC’s best restaurants . All guests at the Grand Tasting will receive an etched Washington, DC International Wine & Food Festival wine glass and have the opportunity to speak directly with winemakers while enjoying and learning about a wide variety of wines.
